NDRRMC: Low-pressure area kills 2, injures 5
(Updated July 4, 11:10 a.m.) - The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said Tuesday in its 8 p.m. update that the low-pressure area west of Luzon killed two persons, including nine-year-old Christian Serrano, and injured 5 others.
According to the NDRRMC’s report, Serrano was killed in Barangay Ugong, Valenzuela City when a stone wall collapsed on him and several others Tuesday morning.
Rodel Pugoy Sr., 29, is still missing and is the subject of “search and retrieval operations.”
Other members of the Pugoy family were injured in the accident: two-year-old Rodel Pugoy Jr., one-year-old Rhiver Pugoy, and 23-year-old Grace Pugoy.
“The victims were taken to the Valenzuela General Hospital; patients are in stable condition,” the NDRRMC reported.
Also, Feliriano Basilia Balcac, 54, and Eliza Balcac, 74, were injured in a rockslide in La Trinidad, Benquet on Tuesday afternoon. Local respondents rescued the Balcacs and they were brought to the “Pines Doctors Hospital”.
In the Bicol Region, some 840 families were affected by two-foot deep floodwaters after a creek connected to the Bicol River overflowed. No evacuation was ordered.
NDRRMC also recorded a landslide incident in Antipolo City at 2:30 a.m. on Monday with no casualties reported.
Flooded areas
As of 6 p.m. Tuesday, the NDRRMC said that floodwaters have subsided in Metro Manila except for “Andalucia cor. Laon Laan, Manila”.
Region III was also flood free except for some barangays:
Obando, Bulacan
Brgy. Lawa – 2 ft. deep flooding
Brgy. Pagasa – 2 ft.
Brgy. Panghulo – 1.5 ft.
Brgy. Catanghalian – 1.5 ft.
Guagua, Pampanga
Brgy. Betis – 1 ft.
Brgy. Poblacion – 1 ft.
In Region IV-B, the Anahawin Spillway in Occidental Mindoro overflowed. The NDRRMC said that heavy noontime rains due to the LPA rendered some segments of the road impassable to light vehicles with the DPWH IV-B reporting no damage. — DVM/KG, GMA News
