Police have discounted robbery as a motive behind the killing of a former mayor of Samar province in Mandaluyong City Saturday night, after finding the items in his house were “intact.”

City police investigation division Chief Inspector Carlito Canlas said they are looking into other angles in the killing of Constancio Pacanan Jr., radio dzBB’s Glen Juego reported.

He said the possible angles they are checking includes a personal grudge. Earlier, police said they are not discounting politics as another possible angle.

According to Canlas, they also found inside the house a magazine for a 9-mm pistol and ammunition for a 9-mm firearm wrapped in a plastic bag.

Pacanan, a former mayor of Motiong town in Samar, was shot dead inside his house in Welfareville Compound in Mandaluyong City shortly before midnight Saturday.

The victim had served as mayor from 2004 to 2007. In the 2007 polls, he edged opponent Francisco Langi Sr. by three votes but a Samar court declared Langi the winner of the 2007 polls.

He also lost his mayoralty bid in 2010. Investigators are verifying information Pacanan was planning to run in the 2013 mayoral elections.

The dzBB report quoted police as saying they have so far established that two men wearing black jackets entered the victim’s house at about 10:45 p.m.

An earlier report by dzBB’s Rodil Vega indicated hosted an affair inside his house Saturday, shortly before the shooting. — LBG, GMA News
