More than a thousand fans endured a one-kilometer walk under the morning heat for a chance to pay their respects to the late Comedy King Rodolfo "Dolphy" Vera Quizon for five seconds Thursday. This was the scenario in the first few hours of the public viewing of the comedian’s remains at the Heritage Park in Taguig City Thursday morning. Yet, many of the fans did not mind the inconveniences as they said they wanted to thank Dolphy for his gift of laughter, radio dzBB's Glen Juego reported. The fans, some of whom came from as far north as Pangasinan, had lined up at the Heritage Park in Taguig City where Dolphy's remains were brought. Meanwhile, the Philippine Red Cross sent teams to assist the fans who may feel dizzy or lose consciousness while waiting for their turn to pay their respects to Dolphy, dzBB’s Carlo Mateo reported. Public viewing of Dolphy's remains started past 8 a.m. The dzBB report said authorities estimated the crowd at more than 1,000 as of 8:50 a.m. One of the first to pay her respects to the ace comedian was Susan Avila, 54, who said she wanted to thank Dolphy for the laughter he brought. Dolphy's sons Eric and Epi Quizon greeted the fans to thank them for their support. The veteran comedian-actor died Tuesday night at the Makati Medical Center, two weeks before his 84th birthday. He is to be buried on Sunday. — LBG, GMA News
