2 akyat-bahay gang members killed in predawn encounter in QC

July 16, 2012 9:04am
At least two suspected members of the notorious “Akyat Bahay” burglary gang were killed after figuring in a predawn shootout with police in Quezon City Monday.

Police sealed off the gated subdivision where the gang members were cornered, in a bid to look for the other gang members who may have tried to escape.

“Nang nagresponde sila rito, nagkahabulan ... Armado ang dalawa. May nakita tayong baril,” Quezon City Police District Station 6 commander Superintendent Ronnie Montejo said in an interview on dzBB radio.

The encounter occurred at about 5:30 a.m. on F. Ventura Street at BF Homes, a gated subdivision at Barangay Holy Spirit in Quezon City.

Recovered from the suspects was a red Innova-type Asian utility vehicle without license plates.

It was loaded with items believed stolen by the suspects from the homes they burglarized.

The Innova’s windshield had a sticker of a subdivision, but it was not clear if that belonged to BF Homes, radio dzBB’s Allan Gatus reported.

Citing initial reports reaching him, Montejo said his men received a call from the subdivision guards about a group of men acting suspiciously.

Montejo said a hot pursuit operation is now ongoing for other members of the gang.

“Tinitingnan natin kung may ibang kasamahan na nakatakas. Pina-lock natin ang gates sa tulong ng security agency,” he said.

He also said they will investigate how the Innova gained entry to the gated subdivision, which he said should have tight security measures.

“Alamin natin ‘yan,” he said when asked how the Innova easily got inside the subdivision. –KG, GMA News
