PNP to go on full alert for SONA starting Sunday noon
Starting Sunday noon, the Philippine National Police will go on full alert for President Benigno Aquino III’s State of the Nation Address on Monday afternoon.
PNP chief Director General Nicanor Bartolome said Saturday this means that by Sunday noon, all PNP personnel should be at their posts for any contingency.
“By Sunday noontime, itataas natin sa full alert. Lahat na pulis natin ay dapa nasa kani-kanilang istasyon. Kung may pangangailangan additional deployment nariyan na sila," Bartolome said in an interview on dzBB radio.
He said the PNP went on heightened alert Friday, meaning at least half of police personnel are to be at their posts for any contingency.
The PNP had made preparations for Aquino’s SONA on Monday.
Aquino is to deliver his third SONA before a joint session of Congress at the House of Representatives.
Earlier, militant groups claimed some 10,000 protesters will march in the streets to air their grievances while Aquino delivers his SONA.
For its part, the Bureau of Fire Protection said it is ready to keep the peace during the SONA.
Also, the Armed Forces of the Philippines said seven of its civil disturbance units will be on standby starting Sunday.
