Palace: Aquino SONA speech finished, to be truthful and inspiring
After undergoing more than seven drafts, President Benigno Aquino III is ready to deliver his third State of the Nation Address on Monday, Malacañang said Sunday.
Presidential spokesman Edwin Lacierda said Aquino spent Saturday with his speechwriters in refining his SONA, which he will deliver before a joint session of Congress at 4 p.m. Monday.
“Good to go, handa na siya for the SONA sa Monday. Tapos na ang kanyang ang SONA niya, pwede na sa Monday," he said on government-run dzRB radio.
While he said Aquino had instructions to his officials not to preempt what he will say in his SONA, Lacierda claimed the SONA will be “truthful and inspiring.”
He said the SONA will be “factual” and will “move forward,” meaning Aquino will “lay out what he accomplished the past year” and bare his plans for the rest of his term.
Lacierda said Aquino will have visual aids in his SONA, and will deliver it in Filipino, though there will be translation booths to aid diplomats listening to the SONA.
Also, he declined to say if Aquino will head for the Batasan complex by land or by helicopter, saying the decision will be made on Monday.
Lacierda said there were “more than seven” drafts involved in making the SONA. He also said the figures Aquino will mention in the SONA have been verified.
