House showcases victory in Corona trial in time for SONA
Unaccustomed to the glow of public approval, the House of Representatives has set up a physical space to bask in it.
The lower chamber has set up a gallery to showcase its victory in the impeachment trial of ex-Chief Justice Renato Corona, in time for President Benigno Aquino III’s third State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Monday.
The gallery, which was placed in the Batasan Pambansa’s south wing lobby, prominently features photos of House leaders and members of the prosecution team during Corona’s trial.
Quotes from House leaders and prosecution team members were placed under their photos, most notably lines from Ilocos Norte Rep. Rodolfo Fariñas’ “palusot” speech, considered one of the high points for the prosecution.
Last May 29, Corona was removed from his post after the Senate, sitting as an impeachment court, found him guilty of failure to declare certain properties and sums of money in his statements of assets, liabilities and net worth.
