COTABATO CITY — A barangay chairman and his son were reported killed in a shooting incident in Datu Piang in Maguindanao, a police official said Wednesday.

Supt. Marcelo Pintac, chief of the Maguindanao Provincial Philippine National Police (PNP), said it’s too early to conclude about the killing of Barangay Kalipapa chairman Delis Ali and his son, Sapol.

Citing initial reports, Pintac said the victims were on a motorcycle when they were ambushed on the highway in Poblacion, Datu Piang, around 10 a.m. Tuesday by assailants who were also on a motorcycle.

Pintac said Chairman Ali, also the acting president of the Association of Barangay
Chairmen in Datu Piang town, sustained two gunshot wounds in different parts of his body, while his son was hit in the head and leg.

Both died on the spot, according to reports.

Chairman Ali, according to a witness who refused to be identified, has links with a local politician who is groomed to run in the 2013 elections.

“We’re studying all angles.  We’re digging deeper our probe on the killings,” said Pintac.  Malu Cadelina Manar /LBG, GMA News
