Wenphil Corp, the Philippine franchisee of fast food giant Wendy’s International, has partnered with Globe Telecom to outfit its Philippine headquarters and 33 local outlets with Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) and Internet Protocol Virtual Private Network (IP VPN).

Wendy's network of mostly 24-hour food stores located in high-traffic areas needs reliable and cost-efficient interconnection for the business to thrive.

“Downtime of the company’s connectivity and information solutions such as its online inventory management system impairs its operations and causes loss of sales and opportunities,” said Wenphil’s chairperson Elizabeth Pardo-Orbeta.

MPLS is a network which combines various networks into one MPLS network that enables efficient designation, routing, and switching traffic flows within this system. MPLS reduces cost as managing of these networks become easier.

IP VPN on the other hand is a method that helps various computers on different with different internet protocol (IP) addresses to work together, or to be interconnected with each other, with additional security and privacy features for the sensitive data being transmitted within the network.

Pardo-Orbeta also said, their stores get their supplies via ordering online from their commissary. She added that when communication facilities break down, they have to make calls and it can take up even the whole day.

As the company expects to breach the P1-billion sales mark by the end of the year, it tapped Globe Telecom to provide them the necessary MPLS and IP VPN solutions to their company.

“Wendy’s has always leveraged on being top-of-mind when it comes to having an on-call, round-the-clock delivery service. As the market has become very competitive, we need to get data fast, so we can react even faster,” said Pardo-Orbeta.

The company also plans to introduce online order placements, and Wi-Fi connectivity in their stores. This is also along with the company’s plan to add ten new branches within Greater Metro Manila area, and open stores in Visayas and Mindanao within the next two years. — TJD, GMA News
