Facebook launches Recommendations Bar
Facebook launched Friday (Manila time) a new feature that helps users find new articles more easily - the Recommendations Bar.
A report on tech site CNET said the new plug-in taps to what a Facebook user's friends Like and Share on the same Web site the user is on.
It said the bar is at the bottom right of the window and appears as a pop-up that can be minimized.
It quoted Facebook as saying recommendations are based on content a Facebook user's friends "explicitly" Liked and Shared on the same Web site, or in the site's app.
"When you Like an article using the Recommendations Bar, a story is published on your Timeline and on your Facebook friends' News Feed," it said.
But CNET said the popup can be annoying at times, interrupting a user with highlights of recommended articles.
A user may also be prompted to Like the Web page, it added.
"In other words, this is just a more invasive version of the Like button and Recommendations Box," CNET said.
CNET said Facebook now offers 11 social plug-ins, including Like Button, Send Button, Subscribe Button, Comments, Activity Feed, Recommendations Bar, Recommendations Box, Like Box, Login Button, Registration, and Facepile. — TJD, GMA News
