Pinay gets 3-year jail term in Dubai for sexually exploiting compatriot
A United Arab Emirates court has sentenced a Filipina housemaid to three years in jail for luring a fellow Filipina via Facebook to Dubai, only to force her "recruit" into prostitution.
The Dubai Court of First Instance convicted the 33-year-old housemaid for sexually exploiting her 31-year-old fellow Filipina by forcing the victim to have sex with strangers for money.
It also sentenced a 31-year-old Pakistani to a three-year jail term for having sex with the victim against her will, Gulf News reported Sunday.
Presiding Judge Maher Salama Al Mahdi ordered the two deported after they serve their jail terms.
However, the verdict is subject to appeal within 15 days.
Prosecutors said the 33-year-old Filipina committed human trafficking when she convinced the 31-year-old compatriot via Facebook to find work in Dubai.
The 33-year-old was also accused of running a brothel, but she denied the accusations.
“I did not do that. I am not guilty,” she said in court.
But the court gave the housemaid a lenient punishment after she showed a written waiver from her 31-year-old victim.
For his part, the Pakistani claimed he had consensual sex with the Filipina.
The victim said she met on Facebook the housemaid who claimed to have secured a visit visa for her.
“I flew in to Dubai in September to work as a saleswoman. (The Filipina) took me to a flat. She locked me inside and confiscated my passport. (She) said I had to pay her Dh20,000 that she claimed to have paid for my visa. When I said I did not have such an amount, she suggested that I work in prostitution. I refused. She threatened me saying that I would not be able to return to my homeland and see my family," she said.
She added the housemaid confined her inside the flat and banned her from going out except with her.
"I was forced to have sex with nearly 11 men against my will. She used to pocket the money. There was another woman who worked as a prostitute in the flat. One day I sneaked out when (the housemaid) was sleeping," she said.
She said she went to the Philippine Consulate and informed them what had happened. — LBG, GMA News
