July 31, 2012 11:35pm
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority's traffic navigation app is making a television debut of sorts after it was featured in a commercial for a smartphone.

MMDA for Android helped a motorist driving a small car beat the driver of a bigger car to a coveted parking space in the TV ad for Lenovo's new smartphone:

In the 32-second ad, a motorist driving a small car and the driver of a bigger car were stuck in traffic, but the first driver got an edge by using the MMDA app to find which streets were not congested:

The MMDA app gives users a view of the traffic situation in Metro Manila's major thoroughfares and helps them navigate through less crowded streets.

On the Google Play site, as of July 31, the app has received an average of 4.6 out of five stars.

Last June, the MMDA app's iOS version shone in the tech world after it was showcased at a major developers' conference of tech giant Apple Inc. - on the Philippines marked its 114th Independence Day no less.

It was displayed at Apple's app table at its ongoing Worldwide Developer's Conference in San Francisco, California.

Gonzalez had developed the MMDA app for iOS, Apple's platform for mobile devices like the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.

"That awesome feeling when your app is in the Top 20,000 globally and gets displayed at WWDC. :)," he tweeted.

Gonzalez said the MMDA app's being in the top 20,000 apps means it is in the top three percent of all available apps for iOS. — TJD, GMA News
