iPad smart cover may get its own display
The Apple iPad's smart cover may soon get its own display, if a new patent application by Apple becomes reality.
A report on tech site Mashable said the patent application described a “thin flexible display technology” which can be integrated into the cover.
"The concept opens up a lot of possibilities. The secondary display, as described in Apple’s patent application, could simply display notifications related to what’s happening on the iPad (the name of the movie currently playing, for example). It could also be a full-fledged companion to the main screen, sporting a virtual keyboard or another set of application icons," Mashable said.
Presently, the smart cover acts as a stand and a protective cover for the iPad.
Mashable said that while there is no guarantee the patent will lead to a real product, the idea appears intriguing.
"Of course, the patent application doesn’t mean this concept will ever become a real product, but it’s interesting to see that Apple is entertaining the idea," it said of the patent.
