August 4, 2012 8:30pm
Filipino-American Joseph Almorio was killed as the car he was riding crashed through a guard rail and flew 100 feet off a freeway overpass in San Gabriel Valley, Los Angeles on Tuesday.

The 21-year-old Almorio was killed along with another passenger Manolo “Simon” Magat, 23, a report of  the news site Asian Journal said.

Two other passengers survived -- Jason Lieu, 22 who suffered a non-fatal head injury, and Christine Meng, 22, the driver, who broke her arm and three vertebrae.

The report said Meng and the three other passengers came from a bar in Los Angeles.

Meng was administered a breathalyzer test that registered a blood alcohol level of .11 percent during that time. California’s blood alcohol level limit is only at .08 percent.

Meng, who had a clean record before the accident, has already been arrested and will be facing charges.

The four were traveling eastbound on the 10 freeway at around 1:00 am on July 31 when Meng lost control of the vehicle which ended up totaled on the transition road between the westbound 10 and the southbound 710 freeways.

A worker in the area witnessed the accident and immediately notified the authorities.

“Right now she is under arrest and she is being charged with felony DUI,” said California Highway Patrol officer Doris Peniche to the SGVT. There’s a possibility she may be charged with vehicular manslaughter, maybe even murder,” the report said.

Almario was a member of the first Filipino fraternity in California, the Theta Delta Beta “Dark Boyz” Alpha Mu of class 2009.

The frat hosted a vigil for Almario and Magat the report said.

Almario was soon to attend the California State University. - Andrei Medina, VVP, GMA News
