MMDA to provide sandbags to flood-prone Camanava areas

August 6, 2012 8:07am
With parts of Metro Manila still vulnerable to floods from the monsoon rain, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority is preparing to provide sandbags to at least three cities in the metropolis' northern part.

MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino said he has ordered assistant general manager Emerson Carlos to provide Malabon, Navotas and Valenzuela Cities with the sandbags.

"Instruction ko kagabi kay AGM, mag-prepare ng sandbags para sa Malabon, Navotas at Valenzuela," he said in an interview on dzBB radio.

State weather forecasters had warned of possible continued rain from the southwest monsoon, which they said may be enhanced by a tropical storm heading for China.

Ramos also noted the three areas may need short-term assistance since the seawall there had been breached.

Also, he cited the danger of high tide flooding the areas.

"Baka masabay ng high tide, baka maapektuhan ang Camanava," he said. –KG, GMA News
