Prices of vegetables in Metro Manila almost triple as heavy rains persist
Many vendors blamed weeks of heavy rain as the prices of some vegetables almost tripled in some markets in Metro Manila early on Monday.
In Marikina City, the prices of string beans at the Marikina public market zoomed up from P30 per kilo to P80 per kilo, radio dzBB's Glen Juego reported.
The report said theprices of eggplants went up from P25 to P40 per kilo. Patola prices doubled from P20 to P40 per kilo.
Other vegetables registered slight price hikes, including okra (from P25 to P35 per kilo), and ampalaya (from P40 to P45 per kilo).
However, the prices of other fruits and vegetables were stable, including calamansi (P30 per kilo), tomato (P25 per kilo), carrots (P65 per kilo), onions (P70 per kilo) and garlic (P90 per kilo).
Similarly stable were prices of fish, including bangus at P120 per kilo and tilapia at P80 per kilo.
The heavy rain in past weeks had affected some roads in Northern Luzon, which provides much of Metro Manila's vegetable needs. - VVP, GMA News
