Afternoon classes in Manila suspended

(UPDATED 12:00 p.m.) - While it did not suspend morning classes, the Manila city government canceled afternoon classes due to bad weather conditions.
 
The suspension covered public schools from preschool to high school levels, radio dzBB's Carlo Mateo reported.
 
Suspended as well were afternoon classes in the City College of Manila and Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila, the report added.
 
Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim confirmed the suspension in a post on his Twitter account.

The University of Sto. Tomas also suspended afternoon classes for all levels. An announcement from the Office of the Secretary General, the campus should be cleared by 3:00 p.m. 

St. Scholastica's College Manila also suspended classes Monday in the grade school level starting at 11:30 a.m., and at the high school level beginning 12:15 p.m.
 
Several areas in Metro Manila canceled classes on Monday due to heavy rain and flooding since Sunday night.
 
The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the rain was due to the southwest monsoon. - VVP, GMA News
