Fil-Am rapper apl.de.ap praying for safety of Pinoys amid PHL's 'big flood'

August 7, 2012 9:30pm
Filipino-American rapper Allan Pineda Lindo Jr., a.k.a. apl.de.ap, on Tuesday offered prayers for Filipinos affected by the flood brought by days of heavy rain.

On his Twitter account, Lindo asked tweeps to help him pray for the Philippines amid the latest tragedy.

"Help me pray for my country, there's a big flood right now," he tweeted.

Pineda, a Filipino-American record producer and musician, is known for expressing his pride in his Filipino roots.

Heavy rain in past few days had brought floods to several parts of Luzon, including Metro Manila.

The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration earlier said "Haikui," which is heading for China, had enhanced the southwest monsoon.

The flooding on Tuesday has been called a "flood without a name."

Unlike 2009's Typhoon Ondoy, the deluge of August 7 was not accompanied by a storm, hence the absence of a common handle for a flood that easily recalled its infamous predecessor.

The disaster is far from over, as forecasters say Metro Manila and other parts of Luzon will continue to experience heavy rain until Thursday. The southwest monsoon is being enhanced by a tropical storm near Taiwan.

In a briefing on Tuesday, GMA News' resident meteorologist Nathaniel Cruz said the amount of rainfall dumped by the southwest monsoon is “unprecedented” since no cyclones have been spotted within the Philippine area of responsibility. - VVP, GMA News
