PNR: No commuter trips yet for Thursday morning

August 9, 2012 8:19am
After canceling train trips for Wednesday due to bad weather, the Philippine National Railways on Thursday called off commuter trips scheduled in the morning.

The PNR, which cited the continued threat from floodwaters for suspending trips Wednesday, said some sections of tracks were still under water as of early Thursday.

"Sections of railroad tracks are still underwater. All commuter trips cancelled this morning. Afternoon trips to be announced before noon," it said on its Twitter account early Thursday.

On Wednesday, the PNR said all train trips, including commuter and provincial, have been cancelled for Wednesday and would resume Thursday.

It said the floodwaters on the railroad tracks had not subsided to safe travel level.

On Tuesday, the PNR said floods brought by heavy rain that pounded Metro Manila and nearby provinces disrupted its operations.

It said Tuesday provincial train trips to Bicol and vice-versa have been suspended.

As of Wednesday, the PNR said its personnel are inspecting the railroad tracks to determine if these are passable already. –KG, GMA News
