Heavy rain may fall over the Caloocan-Malabon-Navotas-Valenzuela (CAMANAVA) area in Metro Manila in the next two hours, state weather forecasters said in a new rainfall alert before noon Thursday.

 

While the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration downgraded its warning to Yellow from Orange, it also warned of possible flash floods and landslides.

 

"Expect moderate to heavy (5.0 to 10.0 mm/hr) rain over CAMANAVA while light to moderate (2.5 to 5.0 mm/hr) rain (is likely) over Quezon City, Manila and Marikina for the next two hours," PAGASA said in its 10:30 a.m. Yellow warning.

 

It added residents in flood- and landslide-prone areas may have to take precautionary measures and watch out for the next warning.

Under PAGASA's rainfall warning system, a yellow warning indicates 7.5 to 15 mm (heavy) rain in the last hour and likely in the next two hours, and possible flooding. The public is asked to monitor weather conditions.

PAGASA had also revised its rainfall warning system, changing code green to orane.

 

Earlier, PAGASA noted moderate to heavy rainfall (8.0 to 15.0 mm/hr) over Marikina, Quezon City and CAMANAVA for the past three hours.

 

Heavy rain had fallen over Metro Manila and nearby areas in past days, forcing the suspension of classes and work.

 

But PAGASA said it expects the weather to start improving Thursday afternoon. — RSJ, GMA News
