Classes in at least four cities in Metro Manila will remain suspended Friday as the National Capital Region tries to recover from days of heavy rain and floods, the Department of Education said Thursday.

The DepEd said classes will remain suspended in Caloocan, Marikina, Pasay and Quezon Cities.

In a separate post on its Twitter account, Caloocan City said the suspension will cover all levels, in both public and private schools.

Marikina City also said its class suspension will also cover all levels, also in private and public schools.

Earlier Thursday, Marikina City residents near the Marikina River were forcibly evacuated as the river's water level rose quickly, going higher than 20 meters before dawn.

As of 2:45 p.m., however, the water level had gone down to 17.7 meters, slightly below the critical level of 18 meters. — LBG, GMA News
