Originally starting out as an ongoing comic book series by Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore, and Charlie Adlard, The Walking Dead has become one of the highest-grossing zombie franchises of all time.  Adapted into a popular TV Series by AMC and Frank Darabont, the show already has two seasons under its belt, with a third one coming up this October.

As a result, the franchise has expanded into various media, including video game adaptations of the series. An adventure game developed by Telltale Games is already out for PC, Mac, Consoles, and mobile devices, while the official AMC website of the TV Series has a prequel game called The Walking Dead: Dead Reckoning, a flash game featuring primary character Shane Walsh.

Now, a new social game has appeared on Facebook that allows fans of the series to experience survival firsthand: The Walking Dead Social Game.

Open now for Beta Testing, The Walking Dead Social Game is an adventure game that tests your surviving skills in a world ravaged by the undead. The app officially launched on August 9, and is open for Facebook users to customize their own characters and immerse themselves in the universe set within the timeline of the TV Series. Played with elements of a real-time strategy and turn-based action game, the goal is to scavenge for supplies; fight off "walkers"; and work together with friends in order to live through the zombie apocalypse.

The game unfolds with new chapters after undertaking missions by conversing with characters, who then deploy the player to secure items and gear necessary for survival. Home base is the camp that’s seen in the first season of TV Series, and players will get to upgrade their characters by increasing their stats and buying new weapons and supplies after each successful mission.

Still a work in progress, the game’s features are not all open to the public just yet. However, gamers will still be able to increase their character’s level and abilities with what's available. As a social game, interacting with your friends is important in completing missions, and sometimes teamwork makes all the difference. Opportunities will arise on occasion to get extra points and bonuses that will benefit the player and increase his or her chances for survival.

So if you ever wanted to know what it feels like to be in The Walking Dead universe and live through the zombie apocalypse, now’s your chance. Sign up and join the app, free of charge, at Facebook. — TJD, GMA News
