Land row eyed as motive for Cotabato blast — NDRRMC
A land row between between the Moro National Liberation Front and Moro Islamic Liberation Front is being eyed as the motive behind an explosion that rocked a building Kabacan in Cotabato province Friday night.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Saturday said this was the initial result of an investigation into the incident.
"[An] investigation revealed that the motive of the incident is believed to be personal grudge due to a land conflict," it said.
It said the local government unit of Cotabato province and other concerned agencies may mediate between the two "warring groups" to settle the conflict.
But the NDRRMC also said the Kabacan police immediately tightened security in the town, and conducted strategic checkpoints.
An Explosives and Ordnance Division (EOD) team is also investigating to determine the identities of the suspects for their arrest.
The NDRRMC said the incident occurred at 8 p.m. Friday, on top of the Quacknet Building at the corner of Bonifacio Street and Rizal Avenue along the national highway in Kabacan.
The explosion, as well as another explosion in M'lang town, came hours after the Armed Forces of the Philippines declared "normalcy" in areas where fighting between government troops and the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Movement (BIFM) fighters took place. — LBG, GMA News
