Report: Bug blamed for bad graphics, audio in Mountain Lion
A bug is being blamed for problems with graphics and audio in some installations of Mountain Lion, the newest version of Apple Inc.'s OS X operating system. Some users who upgraded to the newest OS X had reported "jittery" graphics and "stuttering" sound from their systems, tech site CNET reported. The report quoted some of them as saying the Mac's audio may stutter and the mouse cursor may pause and jump. The system may even fail to respond during the stuttering fit, it added. "Hopefully Apple will address this problem soon, as it not only results in unpleasant sounds but also can lock up affected systems for a few minutes, and do so regularly enough to impede work," it said. CNET said users who checked the Mac's Activity Monitor observed a spike in CPU usage by the core audio processing service (coreaudiod), CNET said. In such cases, the CPU use by coreaudiod jumps well over its normal usage, which is below 10 percent. So far, CNET said the problem occurs at random and in various hardware-software configurations for the affected Macs. The problem does not appear to go away with troubleshooting procedures such as clearing caches, adjusting permissions, creating new user accounts, and even formatting and reinstalling OS X. — LBG, GMA News
