Aabot na sa 2,000 evacuees sa iba't ibang evacuation centers sa Metro Manila at mga karatig-probinsya ang nagkakasakit, ayon sa pahayag ng Department of Health sa website nito.

Iniutos na ni Department of Health Secretary Enrique Ona ang pagpapadala ng health teams sa lahat ng mga binahang lugar sa National Capital Region (NCR), Central Luzon at sa Southern Tagalog para tugonan ang problema sa kalusugan ng mga evacuee.

Base sa talaan ng National Disaster Risks Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), may 384,286 na tao pa mula sa 83,088 pamilya ang nananatili pa sa 811 evacuation centers sa mga lugar na lubhang naapektuhan ng mga pagbaha dulot ng malalakas na buhos ng ulan dala ng hanging habagat noong mga nakaraang araw.

"As of August 9, 2012, the leading causes of consultations were acute respiratory infections, febrile illness (fever), skin diseases, minor injuries and diarrhea. Acute respiratory infections comprise 60% of these consultations. No outbreaks were detected," ayon sa pahayag ng DOH.

“Health teams from the Department of Health will provide medical consultations and public health services combined to localities flooded due to the southwest monsoon”, ayon naman kay Ona.

Nakipag-ugnayan na rin ang DOH sa local governments kung saan nagpadala na ang ahensiya ng dagdag na supplies para sa mga kinakailangang mga gamot, pati na rin antibiotics, oral rehydration salt solution at Vitamin A naman para sa mga bata.

“Our health teams are assisting our local governments in delivering health services for their constituents, thus providing a small window of opportunity for them to completely recover”, ayon kay Ona. — MM /LBG, GMA News
