Pacquiao quietly donates goods for flood victims
In his own quiet way, Filipino boxing icon and Sarangani Rep. Emmanuel "Manny" Pacquiao donated cash and relief items for Filipinos affected by last week's heavy rain and floods.
Pacquiao's congressional staff gave a "substantial" donation to the relief drive of militant labor group Kilusang Mayo Uno, radio dzBB reported Sunday.
KMU chairman Elmer Labog lauded Pacquiao for his quiet help to the KMU office in Quezon City and urged other personalities to do the same, the report said.
The champ's donations included food items such as instant noodles and a "significant" cash donation, it added.
Heavy rain and floods brought by an enhanced monsoon had swamped many parts of Metro Manila and nearby provinces last week.
As of Sunday, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said at least 85 people have died in the wake of the floods.
