(Updated 10:58 a.m.) - Citing bad weather conditions in the destination areas, air carrier Airphil Express on Tuesday canceled at least eight flights between Manila and Caticlan.

In a post on its Twitter account, Airphil Express said it decided to cancel the flights for the safety of its passengers.

"(The) flights are cancelled due to destination weather. We prioritize the safety of our passengers," it said.

Canceled were the flights from Manila to Caticlan and vice versa:

  • 2P-055 and 2P-056
  • 2P-061 and 2P-062
  • 2P-071 and 2P-072
  • 2P-075 and 2P-076

NAIA: 4 Manila-Caticlan flights scrapped

Meanwhile, at least four more flights between Manila and Caticlan were canceled before noon Tuesday, two of them also due to bad weather conditions.

The Ninoy Aquino International Airport said two Cebu Pacific flights were canceled due to bad weather while two Airphil Express flights were scrapped due to "technical problems."

A photo of the canceled flight schedule as of 10 a.m., as posted on the NAIA's Twitter account, showed the affected flights were:

  • Cebu Pacific 5J-895, Manila to Caticlan
  • Cebu Pacific 5J-896, Caticlan to Manila
  • Airphil Express, 2P-051, Manila to Caticlan
  • Airphil Express, 2P-052, Caticlan to Manila

The two canceled Airphil Express flights on NAIA's tweet were different from the eight flights that Airphil Express said were canceled due to bad weather.
PAGASA earlier warned of rain over parts of Luzon as tropical storm "Helen" enhances the southwest monsoon.

"Helen" is threatening Northern Luzon and may make landfall over Cagayan Wednesday, PAGASA forecaster Bernie de Leon said earlier Tuesday. –KG, GMA News
