Authorities seized some 200 kilos of "mishandled" meat at a stall outside the public market in Pasay City before dawn Friday.

The city veterinarian's office sent a team to the area after receiving a tip that the stall was selling tainted meat, radio dzBB's Sam Nielsen reported.

Seized from the stall of the vendor initially identified as Joel Edolveria along Primero de Mayo Street were 200 kilos of assorted mishandled frozen meat.

Also seized was carabao meat from India, which the city government said should have passed through an accredited processing plant.

The report said the veterinarian's office had already warned local vendors since last year to take steps to make sure their meat is fresh.

Such measures included the use of freezers to keep the meat in, the report said. — LBG, GMA News
