Carjackers strike again, take AUV in Manila
Carjackers struck again in Metro Manila, taking an Asian utility vehicle in Manila's Chinatown district before dawn Friday.
At least two armed men took a silver-gray Innova-type AUV (TIL-653) driven by Juan Sibal in Manila's Sta. Cruz district, radio dzBB's Roland Bola reported.
Police said the incident occurred at the corner of Yuseco and Tomas Mapua Street.
An initial investigation showed the men took the vehicle owned by Jacinto Dy at gunpoint.
Law enforcers had cracked down on carjackers last year following a string of violent incidents where the perpetrators killed their victims.

An article posted on security magazine SecurityMatters.com.ph cited Philippine National Police (PNP) figures claiming the number of carjacking cases went down in the first half of 2012 compared to the same period last year.
The article, written by Dennis Joseph Acop, quoted PNP Highway Patrol Group head Chief Superintendent Leonardo Espina as saying that for the first half of this year, 547 carjacking cases were recorded compared last year’s 739.
Espina was also quoted as saying that decreases were noted in the first half of 2012: 108 reported cases in January; 117 in February; 104 in March; 87, 82, and 49 for April, May, and June respectively.
The PNP also identified some areas where carjacking cases had occurred, including Quezon Avenue underpass, Tomas Morato and West Triangle in Quezon City, Teachers Village in Quezon City, Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City, some parts of EDSA, and near the Katipunan Flyover. — RSJ, GMA News
