CCTV footage helps cops make sketches of suspects in Pasay City pawnshop heist
With help from closed-circuit television footage, police have generated sketches of at least four suspects in Thursday's brazen P33-million pawnshop robbery at a mall in Pasay City.
Pasay police chief Senior Superintendent Melchor Reyes said Friday they were to release the sketches to the media later in the day.
"Base ito sa testigo na nakakita sa suspect, kassama ang salaysay ng empleyado ng Tambunting Pawnshop," Reyes said in an interview on dzBB radio.
As this developed, investigators learned at least P33 million in valuables was taken in the robbery at the busy Metropoint mall.
Police are tracking down at least four men linked to the robbery.
Pasay City police quoted a Tambunting Pawnshop auditor as saying the armed men took P33 million in valuables and managed to escape after the robbery, radio dzBB's Roland Bola reported.
Reyes cited initial findings showing the robbers also fired two shots, triggering a stampede.
Metropoint Mall is a busy establishment at the corner of Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (EDSA) and Taft Avenue. It has a connecting bridge to the Light Rail Transit Line 1 and Metro Rail Transit.
Citing statements from the establishment's security guards, police determined at least four suspects were involved.
An initial investigation showed one of the four entered the pawnshop and poked a firearm at the security guard.
Two companions then entered the pawnshop with iron pipes, and destroyed the display case, while a fourth suspect acted as lookout. — LBG, GMA News
