Canada advises nationals in PHL: Take precautions vs continued floods
Canadian nationals in the Philippines were advised Saturday (Manila time) to take precautions against severe flooding in some areas in Luzon in the wake of weeks of heavy rain.
In an update to its travel advice, Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada said: "Certain areas in Southern and Central Luzon are currently experiencing severe flooding. Metro Manila and surrounding areas may be affected by flooding during the monsoon season."
As such, it said travelers "should keep informed of regional weather forecasts, avoid disaster areas, and follow the advice of local authorities."
It also suggested that they keep themselves updated with reports from PAGASA.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said that as of Aug. 17, 59 cities and towns in Metro Manila, Central and Southern Luzon are still affected by flooding.
It cited new reports of flooding in some areas in Valenzuela, Taguig, Pasig and Malabon Cities in Metro Manila; Bacolor and Calumpit in Bulacan; and in Lubao, Pampanga.
At least 109 people have been killed in the wake of heavy rain brought by the monsoon enhanced by tropical storm Haikui while 10 were killed in the wake of Tropical Cyclone Helen. — LBG, GMA News
