August 18, 2012 11:43am
A potential cyclone, an active low-pressure area, may trigger flash floods and landslides over four areas in Northern and Central Luzon, state weather forecasters said before noon Saturday.

In a 10:30 a.m. advisory, PAGASA said the ALPA was estimated at 355 km east of Aparri, Cagayan as of 8 a.m.

"This weather system will bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms In Northern and Central Luzon becoming widespread rain over Cagayan, Isabela, Quirino and Aurora which may trigger flash floods and landslides," it said.

PAGASA forecaster Aldczar Aurelio added Metro Manila and other parts of Luzon may experience rain in the afternoon and evening.

Aurelio also maintained the disturbance will be codenamed "Igme" once it becomes a cyclone.

Earlier, PAGASA forecasters said the ALPA may become a cyclone in the next 24 to 48 hours.

They said it may enhance the southwest monsoon, which will bring rain to parts of Luzon.

Metro Manila and nearby provinces are still recovering from weeks of heavy rain and floods. — LBG, GMA News
