Gilas 2 notches first win in 2012 Jones Cup
The Philippine contingent participating at the 2012 William Jones Cup started their campaign with a win on Saturday, disposing of Jordan, 88-78, at the Taipei Physical Education College Gymnasium in Taiwan.
Gilas overcame a strong start by Jordan, whom the Philippines outshone, 25-16, in the first quarter. The Philippines tried to sustain their gains but Jordan, at the end of the second quarter was ahead by three, 36-39.
The third period was a Gilas shootout, with the national squad scoring 30 big points to enter the final period with a 12-point advantage, 66-54. The Jordanians failed to recover in the fourth as they succumbed to an 88-78 defeat.
