VP Binay, pinaiimbestigahan ang umano’y substandard housing sa mga biktima ni ‘Sendong’ sa CDO

Iniutos ni Vice President Jejomar Binay sa National Housing Authority (NHA) na siyasatin ang umano’y substandard housing units na itinayo para sa mga biktima ng bagyong "Sendong" sa Cagayan de Oro. “I have already directed NHA General Manager Chito Cruz to conduct a thorough investigation on the allegations of some awardees in the resettlement sites in CDO," pahayag ni Binay, nagsisilbi ring pinuno ng Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC). Ang NHA ay nakapailalim sa HUDCC. Ang Cagayan de Oro at Iligan ang pinakamatinding tinamaan ng bagyong Sendong na nanalasa sa Mindanao noong 2011. Maraming kabahayan ang nawasak dulot ng mga flash flood. Ayon kay Binay, kabilang sa mga natanggap niyang reklamo ay ang pagkakaroon ng bitak sa pader at sahig ng mga ipinatayong bahay sa Calaanan relocation site sa Barangay Canito-an sa CDO. “We are taking these reports seriously because it is first and foremost an issue of the residents’ safety," pahayag ng bise presidente. Sinabi ni Binay na tatalakayin niya ang usapin sa mga kontratista ng proyekto, pati ang Habitat for Humanity at Gawad Kalinga. “We want our kababayans to live without any fear that their houses might suddenly collapse so I am encouraging the residents of Calanaan and other resettlement sites to report to us any structural defect that they may notice in the houses that have been given to them," ayon kay Binay. Iginiit din niya na hindi dapat gamiting dahilan ang maliit na pondo sa proyekto na nagkakahalaga ng P110,000 bawat unit para gawing mahina ang mga bahay. “Before we started development of the resettlement sites, we have had several consultations with the constructors and other experts as regards the budget for each housing unit and they assured us that the amount would not compromise the safety of the families to be relocated therein," anang opisyal. — FRJ, GMA News
