Miriam wants trust fund for Robredo's children
Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago is proposing the creation of a trust fund for the children of the late Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo and other government officials who were killed while on duty.
Santiago filed Senate Resolution 853, which directs the proper Senate panel to conduct an inquiry in aid of legislation on the need to create a trust fund for Robredo's children. Robredo died in a plane crash on August 18.
"In light of his unwavering dedication and tireless commitment to the betterment of Philippine society, it is but just that the Filipino people return the love, perseverance, and enthusiasm Secretary Robredo has shown while in service, by creating a trust fund for his children, which will be used for their education until college," she said in the resolution.
But she quickly noted that a fund should likewise be created for those "similarly situated in government," specifically those who died in the line of duty and those "worthy" to receive such funding for their children as determined by the Civil Service Commission.
Santiago said the trust fund shall be limited to non-military, non-police government employees only. — BM, GMA News
