Gilas lineup for FIBA Asia released, Mercado declared ineligible

Just days after its dramatic win to take the 2012 William Jones Cup title, the Philippine National Basketball team released its fortified lineup for the 2012 FIBA Asia Cup minus key pointguard Sol Mercado.

Hero LA Tenorio will be back along with Jay-R Reyes, Ranidel De Ocampo, Sonny Thoss, Gabe Norwood, Jeff Chan, Marcus Douthit, Larry Fonacier, Gary David, Enrico Villanueva, and Fil-Am guard Matt Rosser. Jared Dillinger was the lone addition to the squad.



The FIBA Asia Cup will be held on September 14-22 at the Ota Gymnasium in Tokyo, Japan. The Philippines was drawn to Group A, along with China, Lebanon, Macau, and Uzbekistan, while Iran finds company in Chinese Taipei, Qatar, Japan, and India in Group B.

It will be a tough test for Gilas from the get-go, as they face China in their opening game on September 14. The play Lebanon next on the 15th and Macau on the 17th.
