Classes will go on in areas affected by the magnitude-7.6 quake that jolted Eastern Visayas and some parts of Luzon and Mindanao, the Department of Education said Monday.

The DepEd said its initial information showed no school sustained major damage in the wake of Friday's quake, radio dzBB's Glen Juego reported.

It added this includes schools in Eastern Samar, some areas of which felt the quake at a potentially destructive Intensity VII.

Education officials also allayed fears by parents that some schools may collapse, adding the situation is normal.

But a separate dzBB report quoted National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council head Benito Ramos as saying some government services may be interrupted in some quake-affected areas.
