A child drowned while another has gone missing as they crossed a creek amid heavy rain in Davao City last Friday, said the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.

In a report posted on its website early Sunday, the NDRRMC said that two other children managed to survive.

The NDRRMC said the body of the fatality, Fernando Caitom, 12, was retrieved at 6:55 a.m. Saturday. Still missing is Jomar Abequivel.

Dennis Maños, 10, and Kevin Ambe, 13, are the survivors.

Citing initial information, the NDRRMC said the incident occurred at 4:10 p.m. Friday while the children were crossing the Bagahay Creek in Baliok village in Toril District in Davao City.

The children were on their way home and did not notice that the water had risen due to continuous rain.

Search operations were "discontinued" at 4:50 p.m. Saturday, the NDRRMC said. — DVM, GMA News
