Expecting snub, Bradley calls Pacquiao a chicken

September 13, 2012 2:30pm
With the prospect of a fourth Manny Pacquiao versus Juan Manuel Marquez fight appearing all-but-confirmed, Timothy Bradley has gone out of his way to express his disagreement with the selection of Pacquiao’s next opponent.

"In my eyes, chicken (expletive), chicken, chicken, chicken. I'm too much for these boys, man," Bradley said in an interview with Leighton Ginn of The Desert Sun.

Pacquiao-Marquez 4 is close to getting signed for December 8 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. According to Top Rank Promotions boss Bob Arum, the selection is based largely on the money that can be made. Marquez is a proven pay-per-view commodity while Bradley is not. However, Bradley thinks that Pacquiao is taking the easy way out by facing Marquez, a puzzle that Pacquiao has failed to solve in three tries.

"I can't believe these guys," Bradley said in the same interview. "He didn't want any part of me. Marquez is an easier fight. He knows that a fight with me and two good legs is going to be hell.”

Bradley’s trainer Joel Diaz echoed the same sentiment. "Manny knows Tim is a complicated fighter," he said. "Tim already had his number. If you go for the easier fight, you go with Marquez."

Pacquiao had a rematch clause against Bradley so making that fight would have been very easy. However, Bradley’s camp asked for twice the money they made in the first fight and Pacquiao’s camp felt that wasn’t going to be profitable, based on what they estimate a Pacquiao-Bradley rematch can generate.

"What the public needs to know is Pacquiao, their Number 1 dude, doesn't care about his loss," Bradley said. "You need to redeem yourself because Tim Bradley beat you. You need to come back and redeem that loss.”

It’s easy to understand why Bradley is not pleased. He thought that he had another financially lucrative payday waiting for him. Now he’s left with the WBO welterweight belt but without a dance partner. Bradley will now need to look for another opponent for a fight where he will be making nowhere near the five million dollars he earned against Pacquiao. - AMD/HS, GMA News
