September 22, 2012 5:09pm

President Benigno Aquino III will leave for Brunei Sunday to attend the wedding presentation of Brunei Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah's daughter at the Istana Nurul Iman Palace.

A Malacañang statement on Saturday afternoon said this will be Aquino's second trip to Brunei since his official visit there in June 2011.

"While in Brunei, President Aquino will be assisted by Philippine Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam Nestor Ochoa, Philippine Minister and Consul General Raymond Balatbat and Philippine Minister and Consul Celeste Balatbat," it said.

Also expected to attend the ceremony are leaders of Singapore, Cambodia, Malaysia and Thailand, along with other VIPs, the Palace said.

Deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte added this will be a case of "informal diplomacy."

"Given that it is important to continue to strengthen our relations with fellow ASEAN countries, the President will be engaging in some informal diplomacy," she said.

Princess Hajah Hafiza Sururul Bolkiah, 32, the fifth child of the Sultan and his wife Queen Saleha, wed Haji Muhammad Ruzaini on Thursday.

Sunday's ceremonial wedding presentation will cap the week-long celebrations in Brunei, Malacañang added. — LBG, GMA News
