Aquino arrives in Brunei for Sultan's daughter's wedding
President Benigno Aquino III left for Brunei Sunday morning to attend the wedding presentation of Brunei Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah's daughter at the Istana Nurul Iman Palace.
Aquino boarded a plane that left Villamor Air Base for Brunei at 6:45 a.m., radio dzBB's Mao dela Cruz reported.
Aquino's Twitter account indicated he arrived in Brunei before noon.
Earlier, Malacañang said Aquino's trip will be a case of "informal diplomacy."
"Given that it is important to continue to strengthen our relations with fellow ASEAN countries, the President will be engaging in some informal diplomacy,” deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said.
Princess Hajah Hafiza Sururul Bolkiah, 32, the fifth child of the Sultan and his wife Queen Saleha, wed Haji Muhammad Ruzaini on Thursday.
