Binga Dam in Benguet continued to keep one gate open Wednesday morning to release excess water, even as Typhoon Lawin (Jelawat) moved toward Northern Luzon.
PAGASA said that as of 6 a.m., Binga kept one gate open at 0.5 meter, even as its water level went down to 572.34 meters from 574 meters on Tuesday.
This was below the dam's 575-meter high water level.
Since Tuesday, other major dams in Luzon had closed their gates.
Closing their gates were Angat and Ipo Dams in Bulacan, as well as Magat Dam in the Ifugao-Isabela area.
Earlier, PAGASA said Lawin moved closer to the Cagayan-Batanes area, with forecaster Samuel Duran saying it may stay in the Philippine Area of Responsibility until Saturday or Sunday. –KG, GMA News
