(Updated 2:25 p.m.) Candidates under the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) — the coalition between the parties of former President Joseph Estrada and Vice President Jejomar Binay — on Monday filed their certificates of candidacy (COCs) at the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

Among the UNA senatorial bets who arrived at the Comelec main office in Intramuros at past 1 p.m. were:
  • Senator Gregorio Honasan
  • former senator Ernesto Maceda
  • former senator Richard Gordon
  • former senator Juan Miguel Zubiri
  • San Juan City Rep. Joseph Victor "JV" Ejercito
  • Cagayan Rep. Jack Enrile
  • Zambales Rep. Mitos Magsaysay
  • former Tarlac governor Margarita "Tingting" Cojuangco

They were accompanied by Estrada, Binay, Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile and UNA Sarangani gubernatorial bet and world boxing champ Manny Pacquiao.

UNA is the coalition between Binay's Partido Demokratikong Pilipino-Laban (PDP-Laban) and Estrada's Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino (PMP).

Adopted UNA candidates Senators Loren Legarda and Francis Escudero, and Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) chair Grace Poe Llamanzares will file their COCs separately as they were also adopted as guest candidates by the Liberal Party-led coalition.

In an interview with reporters after the filing, Binay confirmed that Jose "Joey" De Venecia III, who was supposed to run under UNA, will no longer be gunning for a Senate seat.

"Alam ninyo may priorities tayo sa buhay. Si Joey De Venecia merong napakagandang oportunidad sa negosyo, hindi naman pwede pagsabayin 'yung pagkakampanya tsaka yung negosyo na minsan lang mangyayari," he said.

The coalition, however, has yet to discuss whether it will replace De Venecia, son of former House speaker Jose de Venecia Jr.

"Magu-usap-usap kami dahil sa hanggang October 5 pa [ang filing]," Binay said.

Despite this, he said he was still confident that their candidates will dominate the 2013 elections.

"Basta't kami makakaraming mananalo kung hindi lahat sa amin manalo," Binay said.— KBK, GMA News
