Homeless World Cup: PHL gains momentum with 6-4 win over USA
Team Philippines won its second game at the 2012 Homeless World Cup in Mexico City Wednesday (PHL time) with a 6-4 victory against the United States, according to official results posted on the competition's website. The match against USA was Team Philippines' first in the second stage of the Homeless World Cup. In an interview with GMA News Online, team director Rudy del Rosario said from Mexico that their contingent is aiming for an 18th place finish—up from 24th last year. He said the Philippine team this time around is “very young.” “Our youngest, Jayson [Bronola] from Baler, is 17. We also have players who are 18.” del Rosario said. The first win In the first stage, the Filipinos' first win came at the expense of Sweden, 12-2, with goals made by five Pinoy lads: #9 John Paul Cordero (3 goals); #18 Nichol John Jardin (3 goals); # 31 Jhay-ar Estuaria (1 goal); #24 Eddie Alivio (3 goals); and # 28 Jayson Broñola (2 goals).
