The supposed online library of the terrorist network Al Qaeda has been shut down after its server was traced to Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, a Malaysian news site reported Thursday.
Malaysia's The Star on Thursday said it informed authorities about the location of the Tawhed.net server, which was shut down at about 4 p.m. Wednesday.
It said Tawhed.net is described in a United States Military Academy report as “al-Qaeda's main online library.”
The Star said the site contained a message from current Al Qaeda leader Ayman Al Zawahiri, and featured interviews with detained terrorist suspects.
As of noon Thursday, visitors to the site were greeted with the message that the site's account is suspended.
But Malaysia's The Star said this may not yet be the end of Tawhed.net, which is believed to be the largest terrorist website in the world.
"(C)ounter terrorism experts say it is al-Qaeda's strategy to have its websites and forums hosted in one country and move to another when detected," it said. — TJD, GMA News
