Apple Inc. fixed some security bugs in its relatively new iOS 6 operating system for mobile devices such as iPads, iPhones, and iPod touches.

In an advisory, Apple announced some modifications in iOS 6.0.1, including to the kernel itself as well as the passcode lock feature.

The changes include:

  • Kernel, to address an issue where maliciously crafted or compromised iOS applications may determine addresses in the kernel.
  • Passcode Lock, to address an issue where a person with physical access to the device may access Passbook passes without entering a passcode.
  • Webkit, to address a bug where visiting a maliciously crafted website may lead to an unexpected application termination or arbitrary code execution.

Security vendor Sophos said iOS 6 patched 197 vulnerabilities in 41 system components, which included:

  • six security bypasses
  • one denial of service (DoS) problem
  • one privilege escalations
  • 15 data leakage issues
