Seven elite US Navy SEALs, one of them involved in killing terrorist leader Osama bin Laden, are now in hot water for revealing classified secrets —to a video game maker.

The seven, members of the elite SEAL Team Six that killed bin Laden, worked as paid consultants for Electronic Arts' "Medal of Honor: Warfighter," CBS reported.

"It is unclear what secrets members of SEAL Team Six gave away, but while serving as consultants for the game, they used classified material which had been given to them by the Navy. They also violated the unwritten code that SEALs are silent warriors who shun the spotlight," the CBS report said.

Also, it said four other members of the team who have since transferred away from the unit but still on active duty are also under investigation.

The CBS report said the seven SEALs received letters of reprimand, which might hinder their promotion. They would also go two months with only half their pay.

EA's latest game supposedly portrays realistic missions, such as an attack on a pirates' den in Somalia, though not the raid on bin Laden's lair.

Publicity

Since the raid on bin Laden, the SEALs have been subjected to publicity, though some have the approval of Admiral William McRaven, the commander of the bin Laden raid.

One such publicity is the film "Act of Valor."

"Yes, there are SEALs, I think eight of them, active duty Navy SEALs, that are in it ... It started as a recruiting film," said McRaven, now the head of the Special Operations Command.

The CBS report said SEAL Team Six will also be featured in two upcoming movies, one about the rescue of the captain of a container ship kidnapped by Somali pirates. The other is about the bin Laden raid. — TJD, GMA News
