Motorists and commuters can expect some relief from high prices with rollbacks in diesel and kerosene this week, a Department of Energy official said Monday.

DOE Oil Industry Management Bureau director Zenaida Monsada said this is due to the downward trend of the prices of the two commodities in the world market last week.

"Mukhang tutumbukin ang dalawang produkto. Paniguradong may rollback tayo ... Ang diesel at kerosene medyo malaki ang nakita natin dito although talagang volatile ang price sa international market," she said in an interview on dzBB radio.

Also, she said the rollback in diesel prices may reach P1 per liter if world prices of diesel went further down last Friday.

But she said she cannot say the same for regular gasoline because its price is still very volatile.

When asked when the rollbacks may take place, she said Tuesday would be the latest.

On the other hand, she said prices of gas remained volatile because of recent world events, including the recent US election and its recovery from superstorm Sandy.

"Medyo nag-uumpisa sila mag-recover so balik ang demand sa gas," she said. –KG, GMA News
