While he is thankful for an endorsement for the Philippine National Police's top post from Interior Secretary Manuel Roxas II, PNP Deputy Director General Alan Purisima wants to focus first on his work of ensuring clean polls in 2013.
Purisima said he wants to live up to expectations after he was named head of the PNP's Task Force Halalan 2013, radio dzBB's Tuesday Niu reported on Tuesday night.
The report said Purisima particularly wants to define the jobs of police officials in next year's elections and minimize overlapping functions.
Besides, he said he has not talked to either Roxas, who as interior secretary chairs the National Police Commission; or President Benigno Aquino III, the PNP's commander-in-chief.
On Tuesday, Roxas was quoted as saying he and Aquino believe Purisima is the right replacement for PNP chief Director General Nicanor Bartolome.
He also claimed he believes Bartolome has already accepted his non-duty status ahead of his retirement in March 2013. –KG, GMA News
