UPLB student robbed, stabbed dead in own home
A student of the University of the Philippines was robbed and stabbed dead inside her house in a subdivision in San Vicente village in Biñan City in Laguna Monday.
Maria Victoria Reyes, 19, a third-year agriculture student, succumbed to stab wounds in different parts of the body, radio dzBB reported early Tuesday.
Police theorized Reyes was alone in her house when she was attacked, the report said.
Initial investigatiion showed her father forced open the door after she did not answer calls to open it. Detectives said robbery could be the motive for the killing, noting several items were missing from the house. These missing items included a mobile phone, a laptop, a camera and other personal belongings, the report said.
The victim's remains are to be autopsied to check if she was sexually assaulted.
Reyes was the latest victim of a heinous crime since University of Santo Tomas alumna Cyrish Magalang in Cavite and model-TV talent Julie Ann Rodelas.
Her death came eight months after UPLB agriculture student Ray Bernard Peñaranda was robbed and stabbed dead near the UPLB campus. — ELR, GMA News
